Slothrust is the brainchild of singer/guitarist Leah Wellbaum and drummer Will Gorin — a duo approaching a decade since their fiercely innovative debut Of Course You Do. The band first bonded over a shared love of blues and jazz and have since continued to create rock the way they know best, moving it forward with an expansive and unconventional lean.

Since their debut, Slothrust have supported acts like Manchester Orchestra, Front Bottoms, and Highly Suspect and built a large touring audience for their visceral live performances. For five seasons, their track “7:30 AM” was featured as the theme song for FX Series “You’re the Worst.” In 2021 the band released their four record Parallel Timeline, a cosmic, emotionally charged LP that dug deep into questions of identity, time, and perception.

In 2023, Slothrust surprised fans with a bold, slow-burning cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony,” reimagining the ’90s R&B classic through a smoky, rock-laced lens. Equal parts sexy, strange, and groovy, the cover signaled a new chapter — one rooted in experimentation and unexpected collisions of genre.

That journey continues with their newest single “Wild Card, a standalone release produced with Willy Beaman, who’s worked with the likes of Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, and Sky Ferreira. Leaning deeper into an R&B-rock hybrid, the track is hypnotic, pairing slinky summertime grooves with heavy low-end and Wellbaum’s signature vocal magnetism. As she puts it:

“‘Wildcard’ is an unhinged summer song for the collective about what it means to lean into the unpredictability so many of us are feeling these days. Consider this your invitation to keep it weird and wacky within reason.”

True to its title, “Wild Card” is a genre-blending, mind-bending ride through the surreal emotional texture of 2025 — quirky, heavy, relatable, and completely its own. It’s the sound of a band that never stays in one lane, and never stops evolving.
