Not long after a chance meeting in a knitting class, the duo of Julie Edwards (drums and vocals) and Lindsey Troy (guitar and vocals) unleashed Deap Vally’s first release, 2012’s ferocious “Gonna Make My Own Money” single, on the tiny U.K. indie, Ark Recordings. From that auspicious launch, Deap Vally went on to spawn three albums of powerful, idiosyncratic, maximally minimalist rock – SISTRIONIX (2013), Nick Zinner-produced FEMEJISM (2016), and MARRIAGE (2021) featuring groundbreaking collaborations spanning the likes of Peaches, KT Tunstall, Jamie Hince and Soko– that played by their own rules. That was in addition to an entire joint album recorded with Flaming Lips (Deap Lips, 2020) – all while sharing stages on numerous tours, shows, and festivals with Blondie, Garbage, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Queens of the Stone Age, among other notables.

In 2024, the LA natives performed a series of final concert appearances, releasing a dynamic re-record of their debut LP, entitled SISTRIONIX 2.0, on the band’s own Deap Vally Records, with surprise last EP (ep)ilogue (2024) featuring previously unreleased tracks and new single ‘It’s My World’ dropping in time for their final UK and European shows.

Edwards is currently working on other music projects, notably DOSIOPATH with Solon Bixler (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Great Northern) and Heads are Heavy, and has shifted much of her focus to activism and advocacy around the preponderance of harmful tech in public education with grassroots groups Schools Beyond Screens and Distraction Free Schools. Troy has begun releasing singles from her long-awaited eponymous solo project, including ‘I’ve Seen the Willow Trees’ and ‘Love is Deeper.’
